The 15 th ASEAN University Games (AUG 15) opened in Chiang Mai city, Thailand on Dec. 15.
The Vietnamese team sent 157 athletes to the event to compete in track and field, pencak silat, football, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, karate and beach volleyball.
As the biggest sport event of students from the Southeast Asian nations, the AUG 15 attracted about 8,000 athletes and coaches from 11 regional countries including Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Vietnam.
This year, the athletes will compete for 194 sets of medals in 17 sporting events including track and field, badminton, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, football, futsal (men), karate, golf, pencak silat, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, bowling, petanque and tennis.
On Dec. 16, the Vietnamese team will compete in beach volleyball, table tennis and taekwondo events./.
