The 17th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and related meetings will be held at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi from Oct. 28-30.

The information was given by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga at the ministry’s regular press briefing in Hanoi on Oct. 14.

Related meetings will include the ASEAN Summits with partners such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, China, India, Russia and Australia; the ASEAN-New Zealand Summit, the 13th ASEAN+3 Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-UN Summit and the 5th East Asia Summit (EAS).

The Mekong-Japan Summit will be held on October 29.

The summits will focus discussions on topics such as accelerating the building of the ASEAN Community and implementation of the ASEAN Charter, as well as measures to strengthen relations between ASEAN and its partners in the frameworks of ASEAN + 1, ASEAN + 3 and the EAS, ensuring the central role of ASEAN in future regional structures.

They will discuss measures to boost cooperation in responding to global challenges and exchange views on international and regional issues of common concern.

To prepare for the 17th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Hanoi , preparatory meetings at ministerial and senior official levels will be held from October 26-28.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and leaders of several countries are expected to visit Vietnam on this occasion./.
