As many as 200 businesses are showcasing their products at an international furniture and handicrafts fair which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on October 5.

The four-day HCM City Furniture & Handicrafts Fair 2011 (Expo 2011) is co-organised by the municipal Department of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VietTrade) to create opportunities for small and medium enterprises to seek foreign partners.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thanh Bien, the annual fair has become an attractive destination for international customers as Vietnam ’s furniture and handicrafts sector is developing rapidly and integrating deeper into the global supply chain.

In the first eight months of 2011, Vietnam ’s furniture and handicrafts export turnover exceeded 2 billion USD, up 13 percent year on year. The country set a target of earning 4 billion USD from furniture and handicrafts exports this year./.
