No death related to measles was reported on May 4 while 25 out of the country’s 63 cities and provinces did not see any new measles cases on the day, according to the Health Ministry’s Department of Preventive Medicine.

However, other localities reported 48 new measles cases, bringing the total measles patients this year to 4,030.

The department said as of May 4, the rate of children vaccinated against measles increased to 85.3 percent across Vietnam, with 18 provinces and cities achieving rates of over 95 percent.

Forty other localities brought the rate of vaccinated children to between 75-90 percent, while the remaining five reported rates ranging from 60-70 percent.

The sector will continue its vaccination drive nationwide in an effort to curb the spread of the disease. Under the campaign, which will be conducted from May to July, free measles vaccinations will be given to children from 2 to under 10 years old in localities with high risk of the disease.

The localities of high risk of measles are Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc and Quang Ninh provinces in the north, the central provinces of Nghe An and Thanh Hoa, and Binh Duong province and Ho Chi Minh City in the south.-VNA
