Hanoi (VNA) – More than 3,000 Vietnamese labourers, who failed to meet Lao legal regulations on foreign workers, have returned home through the Lao Bao and La Lay international border gates in the central province of Quang Tri.

According to the provincial Border Guard Force, the labourers, mainly from Vietnam’s central localities, worked in Laos without work permits.

The Lao Government recently tightened management of foreigners working in the country, giving them three-months to register with labour agencies, which then decide if they can continue to work in the country.

Investors in projects in Laos can stay for a longer time while hired workers need confirmation from their employers to stay in the country.

In recent years, Laos has witnessed an increasing number of foreign labourers, especially those without work permits, prompting the Government to apply stricter regulations.-VNA
