3rd Southeast Asian Pencak Silat Champs kicks off

Almost 200 martial artists from Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Timor Leste and the host Vietnam are attending the 3 rd Southeast Asian Pencak Silat Championship in the central province of Thanh Hoa which opened on August 5.

The athletes will compete in 16 weight categories in both performanceand combat events. A total of 22 sets of medals will be awarded toatheletes at the closing ceremony.

This tournamentis considered an important chance to help athletes prepare well for the2010 World Pencak Silat Championship to
be held in Indonesia. This is the second time that Vietnam has hosted this event.

The event will last till August 9./.

Vietnam to send 498-member delegation to 20th ASIAD in Japan

The delegation comprises top athletes competing in key sports including athletics, shooting, swimming, martial arts (wushu, karate, taekwondo and jujitsu), sepak takraw, rowing, canoeing, football, volleyball, golf, fencing and weightlifting. It will also include officials, doctors and international experts.
