He noted that the US’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) in Southeast Asia and the approval of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Vision Statement will make an important contribution to stability, cooperation and development in the region in the coming time.

During the meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers discussed concrete measures to boost the realisation of the ASEAN Charter, which came into force at the end of last year.

They also agreed to give priority to strengthening regional cooperation in order to narrow the development gap among the group’s member countries, considering this an important factor to build a successful ASEAN community.

The ministers reached a consensus that ASEAN would extend cooperation with its partner countries to ensure peace and long-term stability in the region./.
