A 4.7-magnitude earthquake, which occurred off Phan Thiet coast in the central province of Binh Thuan on June 23, has slightly struck Ho Chi Minh City , said the Institute of Geophysics .
The quake happened at 8:55 am local time on September 23. It caused no damage to the mainland and did not cause tidal waves.
Some office staff said they felt the light quake while they were working in the centre of Ho Chi Minh City .
HCM City felt earthquake aftershocks in the past. On August 5, 2005, the city was hit heavily by a 4-5 Richter-scale earthquake which happened in the ocean about 20-30 kilometres from Vung Tau and on November 28, 2007, it felt another 4-5 Richter-scale earthquake with the epicenter in Binh Thuan./.
