The 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM 48) and other related meetings are scheduled to take place in Malaysia in early August 2015, said the ASEAN media secretariat.

The AMM 48 and related meetings, including the ASEAN + 3 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, from August 1-6, head of the media secretariat Aniceta Fern told a press conference on June 26.

The meetings will discuss follow-up actions to the 26th ASEAN Summit which was held in late April and preparations for the 27th ASEAN Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur in November.

Apart from the ten ASEAN member countries, the meetings will draw participants from ASEAN dialogue partners such as China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, the United States, New Zealand, the European Union, Russia and India.

The AMM 48 will be held on August 4, while the 22nd ARF will take place on August 6, focusing on Asian-Pacific security issues.

Malaysia assumed the annual rotating chairmanship of ASEAN on January 1, 2015 from Myanmar. This year’s vision is the creation of a ‘People-Centred ASEAN’ involving all sectors of society.

A significant milestone for the group in 2015 is the realisation of the ASEAN Community as outlined in the ‘Roadmap for an ASEAN Community 2009-2015’ where all 10 members aim to achieve uniformity of rules and procedures and seamless physical, infrastructural and people-to-people connectivity.-VNA
