An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted Vietnam ’s East Sea area at 18:03 GMT (1:03 local time) on Aug. 25., said the Vietnam Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre.

The epicenter, with a depth of 250 km, was at 13.41 degrees north latitude and 112.22 degrees east longitude, about 300 km off the central coastal province of Phu Yen.

The centre said that the quake could not cause tsunami affecting Vietnam ’s coast as well as human and property losses as its epicenter was far and deep from Vietnam ’s coast.

The Global Physics Institute is now keeping a close eye on the quake and recording developments in the East Sea area./.
