-Korea Vocational College of Quang Ngai central province, one of five vocational colleges to be established nationwide using official development assistance funds from the Republic of Korea (RoK), commenced its first course on October 6 with 130 students.

The 6.6-hectare college was constructed at a total cost of 6.3 million USD, including 4.8 million USD in soft loans from the RoK.

It currently consists of an administration building, a laboratory, 15 classrooms and two venues.

With RoK-standard learning facilities and equipment, the college provides training for about 500 students per annum in the fields of mechanical engineering, electricity and industrial electricity, electromechanics and information technology.

Some extra 12 million USD will be invested to open 12 more vocations in the next phase of the project.

The school is expected to support provincial and regional efforts to create a pool of skilled workers for industrial parks like the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) Quang Ngai, Dung Quat Industrial Park and Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.

Deputy Chairman of the Quang Ngai People’s Committee Le Quang Thich said the founding of the Vietnam-Korea Vocational College of Quang Ngai is vital to the province and surrounding areas as the booming local industry is demanding a large number of skilled workers.

He urged the college to strengthen its connections with local enterprises and those in other provinces in a bid to increase student enrolments and help ensure employment opportunities for graduates.-VNA
