Hanoi (VNA) – A 6.8-magnitude earthquake stroke off Indonesia's North Maluku province on June 4, according to an Indonesian disaster agency official.

The quake hit at 3:49 p.m. (local time) with epicenter at 89 km northwest Daruba village of Pulau Marotai district and the depth at 112 km under sea bed. It did not trigger a tsunami alert.

According to the local authorities, over 100 houses were damaged but no casualty was reported.

Indonesia has been frequently battered by earthquake as it sits on a vulnerable quake-impacted zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire"./.
