80th anniversary of Vietnam People's Army celebrated abroad

The Vietnamese Embassies and Defence Attaché Office in Indonesia, Singapore and Belarus held ceremonies to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) (December 22,1944-2024) and the 35 years of the All-People Defence Festival (1989 - 2024) on December 5.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassies and Defence Attaché Office in Indonesia, Singapore and Belarus held ceremonies to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) (December 22,1944-2024) and the 35 years of the All-People Defence Festival (1989 - 2024) on December 5.

At the event in Jakarta, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong briefted nearly 300 guests about the history of VPA. He expressed his gratitude to Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of National Defence, and Indonesian people for their practical contributions to strengthening the two countries’ cooperation in all aspects, including defence , helping safeguard the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries, as well as maintain peace, security and prosperity in the region.

Defence Attaché in Indonesia Colonel Nguyen Tuan Duc said that Vietnam is moving towards greater transparency in its defence policy to enhance understanding and build trust between Vietnam and the international community; create conditions to improve the efficiency of international cooperation and integration in the field of defence between Vietnam and other countries and solve emerging security issues.

Up to now, Vietnam has participated in many multilateral defence and military mechanisms and forums regionally and internationaly; established defence relations with more than 100 countries; and opened Defense Attaché Offices in 35 countries and the United Nations. In addition, 42 countries have set up Defense Attaché Offices in Vietnam.

Particularly, the Vietnam-Indonesia defence and military relations have been constantly strengthened and developed in recent years, Duc said.

Meanwhile, at the ceremony in Singapore, Vietnamese Defence Attaché Colonel Nguyen Le Phuong affirmed that the Vietnam-Singapore defence cooperation is growing strongly, substantively and effectively, helping to consolidate and enhance strategic trust, becoming one of the important pillars of promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries, contributing to maintaining an environment of peace, stability and friendship in the region.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador Mai Phuoc Dung, along with the very good political relations between the two countries, their defence relations are also developing comprehensively. When the two countries upgrade their relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the potential for defence cooperation will expand, he noted.

While in Minsk, Belarus, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Van Ngu said that implementing Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy in recent years, the VPA has actively promoted international integration and defence diplomacy at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

It has actively participated in UN peacekeeping missions, international cooperation in the field of non-traditional security, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, overcoming the consequences of war, making worthy contributions to creating an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
