As of November this year, more than 90 percent of the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh’s rural population have gained access to sanitary water, 32 percent of them use clean water that meets the Health Ministry’s standards.

The province is striving to bring the figures to 95 and 70 percent respectively by 2015, said Director of the Quang Ninh Centre for Rural Water Supply and Environmental Hygiene Nguyen Viet Anh.

To achieve this target, Quang Ninh has worked out measures to encourage investment in building water facilities and services that require fee payment so that water supply stations can run on their own.

The province has also paid attention to knowledge dissemination to raise locals’ awareness of using clean water, joining hands with authorities to realise the target.

At present, there are some 70 centralised and tens of thousands of household-scale water facilities in the locality. This year, Quang Ninh has completed 20 rural water facilities and kicked off construction of seven others while preparing resources for the building of six works.-VNA
