Activities held nationwide to honour revolution contributors

Hanoi (VNA) – Various activities have been held across Vietnam over the past few days to express gratitude to martyrs, war invalids and other revolution contributors ahead of the 72nd War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27).

In the northern province of Hai Duong, a ceremony took place at the martyrs’ shrine of Chi Linh city on July 25 to pay tribute to the heroes. It was organised by the provincial Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) and the municipal People’s Committee.

To show gratitude to revolution contributors, over the past years, local authorities have also carried out many practical activities, including upgrading martyrs’ cemeteries, supporting the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, helping war invalids and former volunteer youths build houses, and assisting children of the contributors.

In the fights to liberate the nation, more than 38,900 soldiers from Hai Duong laid down their lives while over 20,000 others sustained wounds and thousands were affected by toxic chemicals.

In northern Ninh Binh province, delegations of provincial officials have visited and presented gifts to over 29,000 revolution contributors and their families.

Authorities have also offered incense to show their respect for martyrs at local cemeteries, restored the provincial martyrs’ shrine and monument, built and repaired houses for revolution contributors, and presented money saving books to those with disadvantages.

Over the past days, authorities of northern Lang Son province have also sent delegations to visit local revolution contributors.

On July 24, the provincial HCYU Committee held a candle lighting ceremony to pay tribute to heroic martyrs at the cemetery of Lang Son city.

A similar activity was also organised at the Ham Rong martyrs’ cemetery in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa by the provincial HCYU Committee, the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa city and the executive board of the city’s Vietnam Buddhist Sangha chapter.

In the southern central province of Ninh Thuan, the provincial People’s Committee held a meeting on July 25 to honour outstanding revolution contributors. The 38 honourees, representing more than 31,000 local contributors, have not only devoted themselves to the struggles for national liberation but also set examples in weathering difficulties to work to support their families and society.

At this event, philanthropists donated over 100 million VND (4,300 USD) to the province’s gratitude fund, which has helped repair 5,200 houses of revolution contributors and presented gifts worth some 84 billion VND to their families over the past years.

The same day, a ceremony took place in Hau Giang province to express gratitude to revolution contributors who number more than 35,000 in this Mekong Delta locality, including over 12,500 martyrs, 500 war invalids, and over 2,000 women granted or posthumously granted with the Vietnamese Heroic Mother titles.

In recent years, authorities have built and repaired about 11,000 houses for local revolution contributors, maintained the search for and repatriation of martyrs’ remains, and continued implementing preferential policies for the contributors.

 

Hau Giang has also mobilised various resources from the society for building and upgrading martyrs’ cemeteries, shrines and monuments, helping to educate the younger generations on the revolutionary tradition.-VNA
