ADB Board of Governors meet

The 43 rd annual meeting of Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) opened in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on May 1.

The four-day meeting of the bank’s decision-making organ is attended by 3,000 delegates, who are government leaders, finance ministers, central bank governors and representatives of scientific research organisations and the private sector.

Established in 1966, ADB aims to help developing countries in poverty reduction and hunger alleviation.

Headquartered in Manila, Philippines, the institution now has 67 members, 48 of which are in the Asia-Pacific region.

Last year, ADB approved a record 16.1 billion USD in loans in the financial sector for Asian countries and developing areas, a year-on-year increase of 42 percent, according to ADB’s Development Effectiveness Review 2009.

The report also said that Vietnam, Indonesia and China were three countries receiving the highest financial support last year./.
