The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed aid of 635 million VND (30,400 USD) to prevent and combat HIV/AIDS, drugs and human trafficking in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.
An agreement to the HIV/AIDS project under the Noi Bai-Lao Cai highway project was signed between the provincial Department of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and ADB on Nov.17.
The project, focused on building capacity, changing behavior by media and supporting healthcare services, will run from Oct, 2010 to July, 2013 in order to prevent the increasing transmission of HIV/AIDS, drugs and human trafficking over the Vietnam-China border and in the province.
As an important project of the Con Minh-Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong corridor, the Noi Bai-Lao Cai highway is under a cooperation programme among six countries in the Mekong sub-region, and is contributing to socio-economic development in localities where the highway runs through./.
