The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is assisting the Mekong delta province of Tien Giang to improve farm products’ safety quality and develop a biogas programme, said a provincial official.

Vice Chairman of the Tien Giang Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Khang said that the six-year project is being carried out until 2015 with a total investment capital of more than 3.4 million USD, of which 3 million USD is coming from the ADB.

The project aims to create high-quality and safety vegetables and fruits for domestic consumption and exports so as to ensure sustainable development of the province’s agricultural sector.

It is also intended to develop family-scaled biogas models to reduce environmental pollution and create a clean recycled energy source to improve local people’s living conditions.

Under the project, 90 ha of vegetables in Than Cuu Nghia and Long Hoa communes and 30 ha of dragon fruit in My Tinh An commune were zoned off for safety production.

The province also helped 1,500 households and breeding farms to build standard biogas works./.
