AECID chief receives award for gender equality

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has presented a “For the development of Vietnamese women” insignia to Benito Alvarez Fernandez, chief representative of Spanish International Cooperation and Development Agency (AECID) in Vietnam .
The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has presented a “For the development of Vietnamese women” insignia to Benito Alvarez Fernandez, chief representative of Spanish International Cooperation and Development Agency (AECID) in Vietnam .

The insignia, presented by chairwoman of the VWU Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa in Hanoi on Nov.11, is a recognition of his precious contributions towards gender equality, especially domestic violence prevention and the development of Vietnamese women.

During three years of working in Vietnam , Benito Alvarez has actively participated in campaigns to protect women’s rights, empower women and promote gender equality.

As an important partner of AECID, the VWU has three AECID-sponsored projects worth over 1.4 million EUR, including a plan on building shelters for women and children human trafficking victims in Hanoi in the 2006-2011 period, the “Raising financial capability to reduce domestic violence” project in the 2010-2011 period and a scheme to increase the number of women holding managerial positions in the 2009-2011 period./.
