Russian airline, Aeroflot is scheduled to open a direct air route to Cambodia this year, said a senior Cambodian tourism official.
The information was revealed after the recent visit to Russia by Cambodian Minister of Tourism Thong Khon during which the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on tourism and discussed the plan to open a direct flight route between Moscow and Phnom Penh.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed around 34,170 Russia tourists in 2010, a year-on-year rise of 76 percent.
The ministry hopes the nation will receive around 100,000 Russian tourists by the end of 2011 and the estimated number will be higher once the air route conducted by Aeroflot comes into service.
