– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reaffirmed theimportance of developing high-quality human resources for agriculture, whileattending an innovation event and job fair of the Vietnam National Universityof Agriculture (VNUA) in Hanoi on August 17.

– Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on August 17asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to review theoperation of household businesses in the tourism sector affected by theCOVID-19. The ministry should coordinate with core travel firms to formkey routes connecting localities, the official said at a meeting of the StateSteering Committee for Tourism in Hanoi which assessed the implementation oftourism recovery solutions.Read full story

– A delegation of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) led byDeputy Chief of the General Staff of the VPA Sen. Lieut. Gen. Ngo Minh Tien attendedthe 10th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS-10) that opened inRussia on August 16.

Defence Minister General Phan Van Giang also sent apre-recorded speech to the second session of the conference, calling the MCISan important multilateral forum for countries to exchange views on strategicissues directly relating to regional and international security, thus helpingpromote dialogues and enhance cooperation between countries, for peace,stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world as well.Read full story

– Vice National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai had aworking session in Hanoi on August 16 with a delegation from the World Bank(WB) led by Danny Leipziger, Managing Director of the Growth Dialogue. - Apple is in talks to make Apple Watches and MacBooks inVietnam for the first time as the US tech giant looks to diversify productionaway from China, Nikkei Asia reported. According to the newspaper, Applesuppliers Luxshare Precision Industry and Foxconn have started test productionof the Apple Watch in northern Vietnam with the aim of producing the deviceoutside of China. Read full story

Vietnam, India vow to deepen defence cooperation

Vietnam, India hold 15th defence policy dialogue

Both sides continue to strengthen delegation exchanges, particularly at the high level; maintain regular dialogue and consultation mechanisms, expand cooperation in training, UN peacekeeping, and defence industry; and promote the implementation of credit and grant assistance packages.

NA approves new Vice Chairpersons, members of National Election Council

The legislature approved the appointment of Politburo member and NA Vice Chairman Do Van Chien as Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Election Council and head of its Personnel Sub-committee; and Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai as Vice Chairwoman.

The vote, part of the parliament's ongoing 10th session, saw 412 out of 412 deputies in attendance approve, representing 100% of those present and 86.92% of the full legislature.

Jordanian King's visit hopeful of opening up new cooperation phase

With 440 out of 441 deputies present voting in favour, accounting for 92.83% of all deputies, the 15th National Assembly on November 10 adopted a resolution to elect Nguyen Van Quang, a member of the Party Central Committee, as Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court for the 2021–2026 tenure.
