Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 10 attended a ceremony to kick start the construction of Gia Binh Airport in the northern province of Bac Ninh, which will serve flight command, training, and combat readiness of the Vietnam People's Public Security air force.

Gia Binh Airport, based in the district of the same name, is a specialised security - defence facility. In addition to serving training and combat readiness missions, it is also dedicated to flights of Party and State leaders as well as international politicians. It will serve cargo and passenger transportation when requested and qualified. Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had a meeting with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing on December 10, as part of his visit to China to co-chair the 16th Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation Steering Committee Meeting.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM conveyed greetings from Vietnam's senior leaders to their Chinese counterparts, reaffirming Vietnam's commitment to fostering its comprehensive strategic partnership with China as a top strategic priority in its foreign policy. Read full story

- The Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) and the Vietnamese Military Attaché’s Office held a ceremony in New York on December 9 to mark the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) (December 22,1944 - 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the All People’s Defence Festival (December 22, 1989 - 2024).

The event, under the chair of Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN, was attended by UN Deputy Secretary-General Atul Khare, UN Assistant Secretary-General Martha Pobee, and nearly 200 guests, including ambassadors, mission heads, and military advisors from UN member states. - A ceremony to hand over keepsakes of Vietnamese war veterans and fallen soldiers provided by the US was held in Hanoi on December 9.

The event was attended by US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper, US Defence Attaché to Vietnam Colonel TJ Bouchillon, and Professor Anthony Saich, Director of the Ash Centre for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard University. Read full story

- The UN Development Programme (UNDP) is willing to support Vietnam in conducting reforms to create an ecosystem to facilitate the transition to a greener circular and low-carbon economy, towards sustainable development, Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi stated at the Vietnam Circular Economy Forum 2024 in Hanoi on December 10.

Khalidi emphasised that to accelerate the transition to a circular economy, Vietnam should focus on four main priorities, including integrating eco-design and circular design into policies, incorporating measurable targets into the circular economy roadmap, fostering innovation, and improving competitiveness. - The Vietnam One Health Partnership high-level annual forum for zoonoses 2024 was held in Hanoi on December 10, focusing on preventing zoonotic diseases and promoting environmental management in the 2021 - 2025 period.

The event was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Health Le Duc Luan, USAID Vietnam Mission Director Aler Grubbs, and FOUR PAWS International Senior Director Martina Stepheny. Read full story./.
