- Party General Secretary To Lam has urged the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap to capitalise on its strengths and mobilise resources to make major breakthroughs, contributing to the development of the region and the nation as a whole.

At a working session with the stading board of the provincial Party Committee on December 11, the Party chief praised the province’s achievements over the past time, with improvement in socio-economic infrastructure, standout results in the areas of education-training, health care and culture, as well as better local livelihoods. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a national conference on human rights education on December 11 with the online participation of leaders of all 63 centrally-run and provinces across the country.

The event was held in response to the fifth phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education adopted by the UN Human Rights Council on August 19, 2024, and the 76th International Human Rights Day (December 10). Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has issued an official dispatch emphasising the urgent need to address obstacles hindering the progress of social housing projects, aiming to enhance the effectiveness of social housing development and meet the growing demands of people.

To achieve the social housing development targets set in Directive No. 34-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, the Prime Minister called on ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, government bodies, Secretaries of provincial and municipal Party Committees, and Chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees to implement decisively and effectively the tasks and solutions outlined in Resolution No. 33/NQ-CP dated March 11, 2023 which is expected to revive the real estate market, and the Government's resolutions and the Prime Minister’s directives. - Argentina wants to foster cooperation with Vietnam in biotechnology, hi-tech agriculture and energy, towards a common goal of developing a green economy, newly-appointed Argentinian Ambassador to Vietnam Marcos A. Bednarski has said.

Talking to the press on December 10 in Hanoi, the diplomat underlined his country’s great satisfaction with its relationship with Vietnam, saying that Argentina hopes to upgrade the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam to a Strategic Partnership soon. Read full story

- VinFast automaker, a subsidiary of Vingroup, announced on December 11 that it delivered over 16,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in November, bringing its total sales for the year to more than 67,000 units in the domestic market.

- The Viettel Lang Son Logistics Park, the first of its kind in Vietnam, officially opened in Cao Loc district, the northern mountainous province of Lang Son, on December 11.

The park, equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, renewable energy systems, is designed following a circular economy model. It offers professional logistics services, including customs clearance, quarantine, inspection, warehousing, and cross-border transportation, leveraging smart transportation management technology and AI to optimize processes and reduce logistics costs by 40%. - Passengers of Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien) in Ho Chi Minh City will enjoy free travel during the first 30 days of its commercial operation under a resolution passed by the municipal People’s Council at its 20th session on December 11.

The resolution, which outlines policies to support public transport users and fund operations for buses and metro services, also includes free bus rides for passengers on routes connecting to Metro Line 1. This policy will be effective from January 1, 2025, until the end of the fare-free period for the metro line. Read full story

- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) raised its 2024 and 2025 growth forecasts for Vietnam to 6.4% and 6.6% from previous predictions of 6.0% and 6.2%, driven by stronger trade activities and ongoing fiscal stimulus measures.

In its latest edition of Asian Development Outlook (ADO), the bank highlighted that accelerated public investment and accommodative fiscal and monetary policies are anticipated to further stimulate domestic demand amidst external challenges. Read full story

- The Government has issued a Decree detailing provisions for the enforcement of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, including conditions under which foreign motor vehicles and drivers may operate in Vietnam.

Under the new decree, foreign tourists can now bring a variety of motor vehicles into Vietnam, including passenger cars, whether right-hand or left-hand drive, capable of carrying up to eight passengers (excluding the driver), mobile home vehicles, and two-wheeled motorcycles. Approval for them must be obtained through a Vietnamese international travel service enterprise. Read full story

- Ten Vietnamese universities have secured spots in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, which were recently released by the UK-based education organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

This marks a notable increase from last year, when only eight universities in Vietnam were listed. The Hue University and the University of Danang have entered the rankings for the first time this year. Read full story
