Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s eventsas reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- With 466 yes votes from the 472 National Assembly (NA) deputies, or 94.33%,the 15th NA adopted the Law on Cooperatives (revised) on June 20 as part of theongoing fifth session. The law, comprising 12 chapters and 115 articles, will take effect from July 1,2024. Read full story

- The state visit to Vietnam by President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) YoonSuk Yeol from June 22 -24 at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong is avivid testament to the special importance given by the Korean government andthe President himself to the bilateral relationship, a Vietnamese diplomat hassaid. - Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang has hailed the United Nations'adoption of the agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marinebiological diversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction (the high seastreaty).

The agreement under the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) wasadopted at the Intergovernmental Conference on Marine Biodiversity of Areasbeyond National Jurisdiction in New York on June 19. Read full story

- The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on June 20 launched its nationwide press photoawards which honours golden moments captured through the lens, as part of theactivities to mark the 98th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day(June 21, 1925-2023). Read full story

- The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control hasagreed with the Health Ministry’s proposal of bringing the COVID-19 from aClass A infectious disease, deemed as “especially dangerous”, to Class B"dangerous".

Class A infectious diseases are those with high infection and fatality rates,like polio, influenza A-H5N1, plague, smallpox, Ebola, Lassa and Marburghemorrhagic fever, West Nile fever, yellow fever and cholera. Read full story

- Foreign suppliers have paid more than 7.36 trillion VND (312.8 million USD)worth of taxes through an electronic portal dedicated to them from March 21,2022, according to the General Department of Taxation (GDT). Of the total, over 3.9 trillion VND has been collected since the beginning ofthis year. Read full story

- Vietnam is among the six ASEAN economies forecast to grow by 4.2% in 2023,outpacing the global gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 2%, according toMaybank Group president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk KhairussalehRamli.

Opening the ongoing hybrid conference Maybank Invest ASEAN 2023 themed “ASEANReboot: Reimagining The Future” held by Maybank in Singapore from June 20-21,Ramli emphasised the resilience of ASEAN after the COVID-19 pandemic. Read full story

- The Lao media reported on June 20 that the Vietnamese government has provideda grant of more than 2.1 million USD for the construction of a new secondaryschool in Xienghon district, Xayaboury province of Laos.

The former school has been demolished and preparations are being made to startconstruction of the new one, it said. Read full story

- Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Khanh Phong won a silver medal at the AsianGymnastics Championships, which came to an end in Singapore on June 18.

The SEA Games champion made a big step in his career after finishing second with 14,366points in the men's rings, his favourite apparatus, and secured Vietnam'ssecond spot at the World Gymnastics Championship later this year. Read full story

- An ancient ritual will be reenacted from June 21 at the Thang Long ImperialCitadel in Hanoi, as part of the celebration of the Doan Ngo Festival (whichtake place on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month).

During the Later Le Dynasty (1533 - 1789), kings hosted a ritual togive fans to all the mandarins during the Doan Ngo Festival in summer. Read full story./.

Historical foundation, future momentum for Vietnam–France ties

In particular, the Politburo recently issued Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW on overseas Vietnamese affairs, General Secretary and President To Lam, emphasising that in the time ahead, the Party and State will continue to improve institutions, and adopt comprehensive, open and breakthrough mechanisms and policies to connect with, attract and effectively mobilise the resources of overseas Vietnamese, particularly intellectuals, experts, entrepreneurs, scientists and young people.

Fresh impetus for Vietnam - France cooperation on new journey

Vietnam-France relations have been nurtured over generations through historical, cultural, educational and scientific ties, as well as extensive people-to-people exchanges. Despite the ups and downs of history, the two countries have successfully built a relationship of friendship, equality and mutual respect, looking towards the future together.

Vietnam-France cooperation hoped to be expanded

Vietnam and France should also build a forward-looking, mutually beneficial partnership in which stronger economic and industrial ties serve as an indispensable foundation, said Dr. Benoît de Tréglodé, Director (Africa - Asia - Middle East) at the Institute of Strategic Research (IRSEM) under the French Ministry of Armed Forces.

Top Vietnamese leader meets Russian Communist Party chief

To deepen the two parties' ties at bilateral and multilateral levels, the top Vietnamese leader proposed both sides effectively follow the agreement on further expanding and deepening inter-Party relations, especially by increasing high-level delegation exchanges and promptly sharing information on each Party's key activities.

Top leader’s upcoming visit to renew vitality of Vietnam-France friendship

Chairman of the France-Vietnam Friendship Association (AAFV) Nguyen Hai Nam said the trip demonstrates that France is truly a special partner of Vietnam in Europe. France can serve as a gateway for Vietnam to access the European Union (EU), while Vietnam can be France’s entry point for deeper engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

General Secretary and President To Lam begins state visit to Russia

As scheduled, the top Vietnamese leader will receive Chairman of the Communist Party of Russia Gennady Ziuganov, the Russian War Veterans’ Association and the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, and have a meeting with staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Russia.

Vietnam's top legislator meets with Democratic Party of Korea leader

Lauding the friendship and sound cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the DPK in recent years, NA President Tran Thanh Man called on both sides to continue effectively following their 2019 cooperation agreement, and foster political trust and mutual understanding by maintaining all-level delegation exchanges and meetings.

Vietnamese NA President holds talks with RoK counterpart

NA President Man urged the RoK legislature to encourage Korean companies to expand investment in Vietnam in priority areas, including infrastructure, semiconductors, large-scale AI data centres, energy and seaports; create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to engage more deeply in the RoK’s manufacturing supply chains.
