Hanoi, (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– The management, use and payment of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control work have basically followed guidelines and policies, the National Assembly's supervisory team reported to the 15th National Assembly's plenary session on May 29 morning. 
Presenting the report, deputy head of the team Nguyen Thuy Anh said over 236 trillion VND (10.2 billion USD) were raised for pandemic prevention and control as of December 31, 2022, more than 189 trillion VND of which were from the State budget and the remainder from other sources, mostly vaccines.Read full text

– Vietnam is ready to coordinate with other CPTPP member countries in implementing the 2023 rotating chair New Zealand’s initiatives on elevating the deal as a model one of the region and the world, affirmed Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.
Dien made his remarks while attending the recent ministerial meeting among members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in Detroit, Michigan, the US. Participating countries agreed that it is necessary to continue promoting the effective implementation of the agreement to bring full and practical benefits to people and enterprises, particularly small- and medium-sized ones.Read full text

– Vietnam’s import-export value in the first five months of this year was estimated at 262.54 billion USD, down 14.7% year-on-year, with a trade surplus of 9.8 billion USD, the General Statistics Office (GSO) announced on May 29.
In the period, Vietnam exported about 136.17 billion USD worth of goods, a year-on-year drop of 11.6%, while imports totalled 126.37 billion USD, down 17.9% year on year.Read full text

– The General Statistics Office (GSO) on May 29 announced that the May consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.01% month-on-month mostly due to increases in prices of food, electricity, and water.
The May CPI increased by 0.4% compared to December 2022 and 2.43% from the same period last year.Read full text

– Vietnam has welcomed nearly 4.6 million international arrivals in the first five months of 2023, soaring 12.6-fold from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said on May 29.
Of the international arrivals, 88% came to the country by air, 10.9% by road, and 1.1% by sea.Read full text

– Vietnam Fisheries Trade Union (VFTU) on May 29 held a communication event aiming to raise awareness of union members on national sovereignty over seas and islands as well as on the prevention and combat of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Participants at the event were updated on the current situation of the country's sea and islands, efforts to combat IUU fishing associated with the responsibilities of union members and fishermen towards having the “yellow card” imposed by the European Commission on Vietnamese fishery products removed.Read full text

– French newspapers heaped praise on Vietnamese-French filmmaker Tran Anh Hung and young Vietnamese director Pham Thien An after they won awards at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival that closed in France on May 27.
The Le Monde daily said along with the main cast, Hung has made a mark with a highly artistic film about cuisine and the art of living. The film not only portrays a love story in the end of the 19th century but also celebrates the art of fine dining in the French style. Read full text /.
