Hanoi, (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reportedby the Vietnam News Agency on May 30. 

-Chairman ofthe National Assembly’s Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh on May 30 delivered areport to the NA’s third session, detailing NA supervision over the implementationof policies and laws related to planning activities since the Planning Law tookeffect.

Thanh said that since the NA supervision group wasform on July 27, 2021, it has worked with 11 ministries and 14 provinces andcentrally-run cities in both in-person and online forms. Read full story

-Socio-economicrecovery and development have been seen in Ho Chi Minh City – the biggesteconomic hub in southern Vietnam, with strong growth in production andbusiness activities.

In May, the city’s Index of Industrial Production(IIP) rose 6.5 percent over the previous month and 9 percent year on year. As aresult, the city’s IIP in the first five months of this year expanded 2.6percent year on year. Read full story

-Enterprisesin HCM City exported 20.7 billion USD worth of goods in the first five monthsof 2022, posting a year-on-year increase of 7.9 percent, according to themunicipal Statistics Office.

If crude oil is excluded, export value reached19.8 billion USD, up 7.3 percent. Read full story

-Foreignarrivals to Vietnam jumped 70.6 percent month-on-month in May, following theremoval of travel restrictions and over two weeks of SEA Games 31 competitions,according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The May figure was 12.8 times higher than that ofthe same month last year, the GSO said.

The number of international visitors rose 4.5-foldyear-on-year in the first five months of 2022 but was still 95 percent lowerthan the pre-pandemic corresponding period of 2019. Read full story

-The Vietnam Red Cross Society has launched an US-funded project, titledConsultancy Service for Comprehensive Model for Community Resilience in Vietnam(CMCR), in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue.

With over 5.4 billion VND (232,959 USD) earmarkedfor its implementation in the province, the project is expected to support morethan 18,000 people in Huong Vinh commune’s Phu Thuong ward and Huong Thuytownship’s Thuy Chau and Thuy Phuong ward. Read full story

-An annualaward aimed at encouraging rental house owners to use rooftop solar power hasbeen launched by Ho Chi Minh City.

The “Rental houses using green energy” award willgrant 280 prizes each worth 10 million VND (430 USD) every year.

Vietnam, France see new strides in defence ties

Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Truong Thang stressed that defence ties, a key pillar of bilateral relationship, have been growing substantively and effectively, with progress in the exchange of all-level delegations, especially those at high level, defence industry, training, and United Nations peacekeeping operations, consistent with agreements reached by leaders and the two defence ministries, plus signed cooperation documents.

Party building work prioritises clean, shared data in digital transformation push

Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of its Organisation Commission Nguyen Duy Ngoc urged provinces and cities to review legal frameworks, decentralisation mechanisms, assigned tasks and administrative procedures, while ensuring synchronisation between local infrastructure systems and the central platform, including equipment, cybersecurity solutions and resource allocation.

Party, State leader calls for consolidation of central steering committees on legal, judicial reform

Consolidating the central steering committees for institutional and legal reform and for judicial reform is necessary in order to streamline organisational structures without reducing responsibilities, while ensuring clear accountability, measurable outputs and concrete results. Following the restructuring, the body will be renamed the central steering committee for institutional improvement and law enforcement, with the Party General Secretary and State President serving as its head.

Reform drive expected to remove barriers, unlock growth momentum

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung recently ordered ministries and agencies to immediately cut at least 30% of administrative procedures, 50% of processing time, 50% of compliance costs and 30% of business conditions, while eliminating all unnecessary procedures.
