Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– The upcoming official visit to Chile by President Luong Cuong is expected to open up new opportunities for trade relations between the two countries, especially as bilateral trade ties have made impressive progress in recent times.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), since the Vietnam-Chile Free Trade Agreement (VCFTA) officially came into effect in 2014, Vietnam has consistently maintained a trade surplus with Chile. Read full story

– Vietnam is willing to offer the best possible conditions for its ministries, sectors, and localities to step up friendship exchanges and comprehensive cooperation with China’s Chongqing city, remarked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh while meeting a leader of the municipality on November 8, as part of his trip to participate in the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit and bilateral activities in China.

Talking to Yuan Jiajun, Politburo member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, the PM thanked the municipal authorities for their efforts in restoring the exhibition space dedicated to late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh at the Hongyan Revolutionary History Museum. – Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA), and Chairman of the Central Theory Council Nguyen Xuan Thang had a meeting with visiting President of the Republic of Korea's National Human Resources Development Institute (NHI) Kim Chae-Hwan in Hanoi on November 7.

Thang told his guest that a priority for Vietnam at the moment is the development of high-quality human resources, an area of mutual interest for both the HCMA and NHI. He also acknowledged the long-standing and effective collaboration between the two institutions, with many delegations of their senior officials exchanged. Read full story

– The Vietnam - Republic of Korea (RoK) comprehensive strategic partnership and preparations for future generations were the focus of an international workshop held by the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) in Hanoi on November 7.

Domestic and foreign experts and scientists looked into development strategies for younger generations at panel discussions on future education, future government, and the youth, employment and startup. Read full story

– The Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei on November 6 organised a workshop to boost tourism cooperation between Vietnam, Brunei and the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

Addressing the event, Ambassador Tran Anh Vu presented post-COVID-19 tourism trends, emphasing an increased demand for sustainable, eco-tourism and Halal tourism. He highlighted these areas as an opportunity for Vietnam and Brunei to strengthen regional tourism, catering to the nearly 400 million people in the BIMP-EAGA member countries. Read full story

– Vietnam attended the Asian Media Leaders Summit 2024 held by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) in Singapore on November 6 - 7.

Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of its Commission for Information and Education, Editor-in-chief of the Nhan dan (People) newspaper, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, participated in and delivered a speech at the event. Read full story

– The Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang recorded no fishing vessels infringing foreign waters in September and October, attributable to strict law enforcement and settlement of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing cases.

This result is an encouraging sign, indicating progress in Kien Giang’s combat against IUU fishing, said Le Huu Toan, Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Read full story./.
