– Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse, and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam had a meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese embassies and communities in Finland, Demark, Sweden, and Norway in Helsinki on October 21.
General Secretary Lam affirmed that the Party and State always listen to and respect the opinions aimed at promoting Vietnam’s value and stature. He pledged the best possible conditions will be created for overseas Vietnamese to integrate into host societies, which is also a task the Party and State have consistently attached importance to. – Acting Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen have agreed on the need to promptly coordinate in formulating an action plan to implement the newly issued joint statement on the establishment of the two countries’ Strategic Partnership.
During their meeting on October 21, held as part of Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam’s official visit to Finland, Valtonen affirmed that the Finnish ministry stands ready to work closely with its Vietnamese counterpart to further deepen cooperation in areas of shared interest and strength such as trade – investment, science – technology, energy, and education – training. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed a decision to issue an action plan for the peak month combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and promoting sustainable fisheries development.
The plan underscores the government’s determination to strictly handle all IUU violations and prevent the recurrence of illegal fishing in foreign waters. It sets a target that by November 15, 2025, no fishing vessel will lose VMS connection for over six hours without reporting, or for over ten days without returning to port, and no vessel will cross designated maritime boundaries. – Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang proposed three key policy recommendations to promote an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient economic transition, while addressing a general debate at 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD16) in Geneva on October 21.
Hang stressed the need to strengthen global cooperation and reform international trade and financial institutions toward openness, fairness, and inclusiveness, which adapt to current profound changes and reflect the voice of developing countries. Read full story
– The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in collaboration with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, held a conference on promoting investment in high-quality, low-emission, green rice production in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta in Tokyo on October 21.
The conference was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam, MAFF Deputy Minister Yoichi Watanabe, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, attracting over 150 participants from government agencies, associations, cooperatives, and businesses from both countries, including more than 70 Japanese companies interested in green agriculture investment. – Storm Fengshen, the 12th in the East Sea this year, has maintained its intensity and path, and is forecast to trigger torrential rains of 200–400mm and even 500mm from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai in central Vietnam, according to National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The centre warned that from midday October 22 to October 27, widespread downpour will affect the areas from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai, with the most intense precipitation expected between the afternoon of October 22 and the end of October 23. Read full story
