Agro-forestry-seafood exports hit 20.4 bln USD

Vietnam earned 2.3 billion USD from exporting agro-forestry and fishery products in September, pushing the total revenue for nine months of this year to 20.4 billion USD, up 10.2 percent year on year.
Vietnam earned 2.3 billion USD from exporting agro-forestry andfishery products in September, pushing the total revenue for nine monthsof this year to 20.4 billion USD, up 10.2 percent year on year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported on September25 that agricultural products brought home 11.1 billion USD, up 6.2percent from the same period of last year. Most products saw rises inboth volume and value, except for rice, rubber and pepper.

During the nine-month period, the country shipped 6.2 million tonnesof rice for 2.78 billion USD, up 4.5 percent in volume but down 6.1percent in value. China has become Vietnam ’s largest rice importersince the beginning of this year.

Coffee alsocontributed 2.85 billion USD, up 29.8 percent, to the country’s farmproduce exports with a total volume of 1.36 million tonnes, a 36.8percent rise. The growth was attributable to rising demand from Germanyand the US , the largest consumers of Vietnam ’s coffee.

Tea products maintained a stable growth, bringing in 161 million USD,up 8.8 percent and 8.3 percent year on year, in volume and value,respectively.

Meanwhile, pepper earned 627 millionUSD in revenues, down 0.9 percent for a volume of 91,000 tonnes, a 16.7percent decrease. The country’s largest pepper importers are the US ,Germany and the United Arab Emirates .

Wood andwood products export reached nearly 3.4 billion USD, an increase of17.2 percent from the same period of last year. Almost all Vietnam ’skey markets saw a strong growth, including the US , China and Japan, which account for 30.6 percent, 14.4 percent and 17.2 percent of thetotal revenue, respectively.

Aquatic productsbrought in an estimated 4.5 billion USD, up 3.5 percent from last year’ssame period. The US remains the top importer of Vietnam ’sseafood. It is followed by Japan and the Republic of Korea.-VNA
