An additional 65 patients tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu on August 18, bringing the total of confirmed cases in Vietnam to 1,576 as of 5 pm on the same day.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1073 patients have been released from hospital after treatment and two deaths have been reported so far.

Currently, the remaining 528 patients are under quarantine and being treated. All are in stable condition.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)’s report said the A/H1N1 flu has spread to 168 countries and territories around the world and nations in the Southern Hemisphere continue to see complicated developments of the pandemic with rapidly increasing numbers of new cases and fatalities

In Southeast Asia , the disease is developing in a complex manner with new infections and deaths surging.

Malaysia confirmed 59 deaths; Singapore , 11 deaths; the Philippines , eight deaths; Brunei , one death; and Thailand , 100 deaths, the highest number in the region./.
