Airport officials seize large quantity of used mobile phones

Authorities recently seized a large number of mobile phones at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which were transported from the Republic of Korea (RoK) to Vietnam, said customs officials at the airport on May 20.

HCM City (VNA) – Authoritiesrecently seized a large number of mobile phones at Tan Son Nhat airport in HoChi Minh City, which were transported from the Republic of Korea (RoK) toVietnam, said customs officials at the airport on May 20.

Officials examined a 35-year-old RoK national anddiscovered 418 used mobile phones in his personal luggage. The illegal batch ofgoods is estimated to be worth nearly 3 billion VND (128,300 USD).

The male passenger boarded a flight from Seoulto Vietnam without declaring his luggage.

Customs officials said used mobile phones,including refurbished ones, are among products banned from import in Vietnam.

The case is being further investigated.–VNA

Australian veteran’s son returns diary of Vietnamese martyr

Entries in the diary show that Vo Van Cong was born in 1944 in the former Phuoc Tho commune, Nhon Trach district, Bien Hoa province, now Dong Nai province. He joined the revolutionary movement in April 1961 and was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam in May 1962.

Hanoi accelerates shift to green buses, targets 100% by 2030

The new central city square and administrative centre will create a modern, centralised political-administrative complex for Ho Chi Minh City, designed to house around 8,000 officials, civil servants, and employees.
