Malaysian Akhmal Tarmizee Mobd won the Vietnam Amateur Open with six-under-par 282 at the Da Lat Palace Golf Club on June 14.

Thailand’s Phiphatphong Naeosuk, the Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, was second on 286 while Phiphatphong’s team-mate, Varun Isaraphakdi, as third, four over, on 292.

Vietnamese Nguyen Thai Duong, who had a good start on June 11 and was among the best 31 male competitors, went fifth with 299, 11 over.

In the Ladies National Championships, also at Da Lat Palace Golf Club, 16-year-old Ngo Bao Nghi from Ba Ria-Vung Tau sustained her form and won the title with 153.

She led Nguyen Thi Hang of Song Be and last year’s winner Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dung, who finished with 253 and 256, respectively.

The nation’s largest tournaments, which began on June 11, attracted more than 100 male and female golfers. They competed for the title in the four-day, 72-hole competition including male golfers from ASEAN nations under the age of 23 with handicaps of four; foreign residents; and over -23 Vietnamese players with handicaps of nine.
