The head of the Vietnam mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, has reiterated the commitments of Vietnam to the UN peacekeeping operations.

Speaking at an open discussion session of the UN Security Council on June 11, Ambassador Trung said Vietnam will send its first men to join the UN mission in Sudan at the end of June.

This is a further proof affirming Vietnam’s commitments to UN peacekeeping activities and its wish to contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security, while realising the country’s policy of global integration and strengthening cooperation with the UN and the international community, said the ambassador.

Vietnam has also set up a peacekeeping centre to give training to peacekeeping personnel to ensure they meet the requirements of the UN, he noted.

The ambassador highlighted need to address the root of conflicts on the basis of dialogue and peaceful measures, seeking long-term and comprehensive solutions to conflicts in terms of politics, security, economics and humanity.

He also underscored the necessity of strengthening preventive diplomacy to prevent conflicts and handle disputes through peaceful methods in conformity with international law.
