Tianjin (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi paid a working trip to Tianjin city, the leading industrial and trade centre in the north of China, from February 21-22 to boost its bilateral cooperation with Vietnamese localities.

Meeting Politburo member and Secretary of the Tianjin municipal Party Committee Li Hongzhong, Khoi said both countries have facilitated regular visits by their leaders and cooperation in diverse areas, especially in economy, trade, and people-to-people exchange.

He lauded Tianjin and Vietnamese localities for fostering long-standing friendship, contributing to enriching the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Khoi suggested that Tianjin and Vietnamese localities should further boost all-round collaboration, particularly in economy, trade, investment, tourism, maritime transportation, science-technology, and education.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in China will strive to uphold its role as a bridge, stepping up bilateral ties.

Li, for his part, stressed that as neighbouring countries, Vietnam and China have become increasingly important partners to each other in a wide range of areas.

He expressed his delight at growing relations between the two parties and countries over the past few years, including ties between Tianjin and Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities, given that Tianjin and Hai Phong will mark their 20th anniversary of friendly cities this year.

The host affirmed that as the largest port city in the north, Tianjin wants to tap its strengths and make further positive contributions to China and Vietnam’s friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation.

The Chinese official hailed leaders of the Vietnamese Party, State, ministries, agencies, and localities for paying working trips to Tianjin and expanding practical coordination between both sides.

The municipal statistics showed that trade between Vietnam and Tianjin hit 4.3 billion USD last year, 1.04 billion USD of which was from Vietnam’s exports. Nearly 150 Vietnamese students are also living and studying in the city.

The Vietnamese delegation took the occasion to visit Tianjin port and residential areas to learn about their experience in social management and Party building at the grassroots level, as well as stopping by several local socio-economic and cultural establishments. –VNA
