Vietnam has obtained encouraging sustainable development achievements in various areas i n the course of comprehensive reforms since the mid-1980s, said a Vietnamese diplomat.
Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, Vietnamese Permanent Representative to the UN made the affirmation at the Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Final Report of the High-level Panel on Global Sustainability held in New York on March 16.
“At the same time, weaknesses have emerged and we deem sustainable development as essential to address them and continue with the comprehensive reforms in the years to come,” he said.
Trung affirmed that the path of sustainable development is a wholesome response to today’s multi-faceted and interconnected challenges, and this finding can be supported by realities in every part of the world.
According to the diplomat, the recommendations contained in the UN Secretary-General report, entitled “Resilient people, resilient planet: a future worth choosing”, provide both important perspectives and concrete measures, and places an additional emphasis on empowering people to make sustainable choices and strengthening institutional governance to support sustainable development.
“The recommendations are indeed significant contribution to both the formulation and implementation of development policies at the national and international levels,” he stressed.
Vietnam is willing to work with the Secretary General, the United Nations and other partners in the appropriate follow-up to the report, he affirmed./.
