Prague (VNA) – Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Ho Minh Tuan visited Ústecký region and had a working session with local officials on June 21 in an effort to promote this region’s cooperation with Vietnamese localities.

The diplomat expressed his delight that since his previous meeting with local authorities two years ago, the region’s administration has carried out many practical activities showing their attention to the Vietnamese community there and the development of relations with Vietnam.

He noted the official visit to the Czech Republic by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc last April and an official trip to Vietnam by Vice Chairman of the Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies Vojtěch Filip earlier this month. During these visits, the two sides expressed their wish to enhance bilateral trade and investment and agreed to boost ties in education and healthcare, and particularly between the countries’ localities.

The year 2020 will be an important landmark as Vietnam and the Czech Republic will celebrate the 70th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties, Tuan said, asking the administration of Ústecký to join the Czech Government to coordinate with the Vietnamese Embassy to organise celebrations.

The ambassador also called on the local authorities to continue seeking and consolidating opportunities to promote cooperation with Vietnamese localities. In return, Ústecký businesses can also visit Vietnam to explore investment and partnership chances.

For his part, Ústecký Governor Oldřich Bubeníček said his region plans to send a delegation of officials and entrepreneurs to Vietnam’s Kien Giang province in spring next year.

They will propose practical cooperation programmes for both sides, he noted, expressing his hope that the trip will help realise the agreements reached during the tour of Ústecký by Kien Giang officials in 2017.

He added Vietnamese people in the region are very dynamic and responsible in building up their relations with local authorities. Some of them are successful entrepreneurs, and they have acted as a bridge linking the administration and people in Ústecký, as well as the two countries.

Ústecký, with ‎Ústí nad Labem as its capital city, is located in the northwest of the Czech Republic, about 100km from Prague. It is the seventh most populous city and also a major industrial hub of the country.-VNA
