The Group of African Ambassadors hosted a banquet in Hanoi on May 26 to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the African Day (May 25), marking the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) (now the African Union).
Speaking at the ceremony, South African Ambassador to Vietnam Ratubatsi Super Moi-loi said the great event provides opportunities for African countries to introduce their development, land and people.
A number of projects being implemented by the two sides has been highlighted on this occasion, he added, stressing that the special event helps boost the friendship and solidarity between people of Vietnam and Africa.
Themed “Construction and preservation of peace through sports,” the African Day this year aims to send a message of friendship and unity to peoples worldwide, the diplomat said.
He thanked the Vietnam’s support for and cooperation with African countries while expressing his belief that the two sides’ bilateral relations will further grow in the future.
At the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh extended his congratulations to African peoples and his pleasure at the remarkable development in friendship and cooperation the two sides have attained over the recent years.
He said he hoped that with the efforts of governments and peoples the Vietnam-Africa ties will achieve more successes in the future./.
