Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong has urged ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to excellently fulfil all tasks entrusted to them by the Party, State and people.
The Party chief made the request while receiving ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies in foreign countries in Hanoi on March 4.
Trong stressed that the ambassadors and representative chiefs were the first persons to convey the Vietnamese Party, State and people’s message to international friends, that Vietnam will continue speeding up its renewal process comprehensively and implement the industrialisation and modernisation process in an effort to become an industrialised country by 2020 and a socialist-oriented industrialised country by 2050.
Vietnam will consistently pursue a foreign policy of independence, self-control, peace and cooperation for mutual development and become a friend and reliable partner of all countries, as well as an active and responsible member of the international community, he said.
The Party General Secretary expressed his wish that Vietnamese representative agencies in foreign countries pay more attention to research and reality summarisation work, helping build the guidelines and policies of the Party and State, especially on the field of foreign relations, as well as policies for Overseas Vietnamese.
He also highly valued the diplomatic sector’s past achievements, which have helped raise the role and position of Vietnam in the region and the international arena, especially in the year Vietnam assumed the ASEAN Chair in 2010.
For their part, the ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad promised to try their best to fulfil the entrusted tasks, to help boost the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam, foreign countries and international organisations, continuously improve Vietnam’s position in the international arena, create a favourable environment for the national construction and defence cause for a peaceful, independent, progressive, rich and strong country of Vietnam./.
