The Amnesty Consultation Council of the Government on August 20 decided
to grant amnesty to more than 17,000 inmates on the occasion of
Vietnam’s National Day (September 2).

Of the total, 27 are foreign citizens and 30 had been arrested on national security infringement.
Under the decision, the prisoners will be released on August 30.
The Ministry of Public Security is working with other relevant ministries and branches to build a Government decree to help released prisoners re-integrate into the community./.
