The southern province of An Giang has donated 2,000 doses of vaccine against foot-and-mouth disease to its neighbouring Cambodian province, Takeo.

The province also coordinated with Takeo and another neighbouring Cambodian province, Kandanl, to prevent and control diseases of cattle and quarantine imported-exported animals.

An Giang has conducted a campaign to raise awareness among people in rural areas of the dangers of foot-and-mouth disease for cattle, recommending that farmers to maintain hygienic breeding facilities, and guiding them how to determine the freshness of cattle meat.

The provincial veterinary sub-department has so far this year vaccinated 270,000 of pigs, buffaloes and cows in the locality and issued quarantine certificates for nearly 58,300 heads of cattle--over 403,000 kg of which were for export—as well as for over 90,000 imported pigs and 11,300 kg of frozen meat.

The agency also licensed the slaughter of 176,000 cattle and helped sterilise over 6.4 million sq.m of slaughter houses in the province./.
