Hanoi (VNA) - Economic integration, connectivity, and trade and investment liberalisation have been and will continue to be the top priorities for APEC cooperation, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang has said.

Addressing the plenary session of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Dialogue with APEC Economic Leaders in the central city of Da Nang on November 10, President Quang said the issues that attract the attention of the business community, particularly regional economic integration, connectivity, boosting trade and investment flows, micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), inclusive growth, food security, APEC’s post-2020 vision, among others, are also issues of great concern for APEC leaders to work out appropriate solutions and practical actions.

“All APEC member economies are committed to accelerating the implementation to achieve the Bogor Goals, with greater focus on services, investment and measures to reduce non-tariff barriers. APEC will also expedite the implementation of adopted plans and focus more on emerging issues,” he said.

The leader said the business community’s recommendations on accelerating economic, financial and social inclusion, achieving food and energy security, promoting quality workforces in the digital age reflect the urgent issues to be addressed to ensure innovative, sustainable and inclusive growth.

He highly valued the contributions made by the business community towards the idea of an APEC post-2020 vision and called on the business community to continue making active contributions and working with member economies to accomplish the task to build a new vision for the APEC Forum in the decades to come.

The State leader also took the occasion to urge APEC and ABAC to uphold close and effective cooperation mechanism and believed that the business community will continue to be the governments’ companion at this critical juncture and beyond, thus providing new impetus to realise APEC’s ultimate goal for the benefit of people and businesses.

After the plenary session, the President attended three discussion sessions in groups with APEC economic leaders and ABAC representatives to seek measures to enhance collaboration between governments and business community and MSMEs’ participation in the global market.-VNA
