The successful hosting of the IPU-132 by Vietnam consolidated the country’s reputation in the international arena, said Chairman of the Argentina-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group Ricardo Cuccovillo.
Cuccovillo, who attended the recently-concluded the 132 nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132) in Hanoi, lauded the contributions of the host to the event’s success during his interview with a Vietnam News Agency correspondent on April 9.
The event constituted a new step towards strengthening relations between the National Assembly of Vietnam and other parliaments, he added.
Cuccovillo also praised Vietnamese initiatives as significant contributions to the Assembly’s resolutions as well as the logistic efforts made by the organisation board.
The Argentinean parliamentarian expressed his strong impression of the host’s hospitality, landscapes, traditional culture and infrastructure facilities.
He hoped that the IPU-132 would contribute to strengthening the political, economic and trade relations as well as solidarity between the legislative agencies and the peoples of Argentina and Vietnam.
Taking place from March 28 to April 1 in Hanoi, the IPU-132 brought together parliamentarians from 127 member parliaments.
The IPU-132 agenda focused on “Sustainable Development Goals: Turning words into action” with a vision to bring commitments in water resources, cyber security and international law to life – critical issues impacting the world as it enters a new post-2015 growth period.
Parliamentarians reaffirmed the vision of a people-centred sustainable development agenda based on the realisation of universal human rights, eradicating poverty and eliminating inequalities, thus empowering individuals to reach their full potential.-VNA
