A meeting to celebrate the 65 th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army Day (Dec. 22) was held in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on Dec. 22 by the Lao Defence Ministry.

Addressing the function, Deputy Defence Minister Lieut. Gen. Sengnouan Saynhalath highlighted the development of the Vietnam People’s Army over the past 65 years as well as special solidarity between the armies of Vietnam and Laos.

The country and the people as well as the army always keep in their mind the contributions made by Vietnamese soldiers and experts to Laos’ struggle for independence, he said.

On this occasion, the Lao Defence Ministry’s Politics General Department displayed photos on the Vietnam People’s Army over the past 65 years and cooperation between the Vietnamese volunteer forces and the Lao Pathet liberation troops in the past and during the current process of national construction and development.

Another meeting to mark the event was also held in Berlin, Germany, on Dec. 20 by the Vietnamese war veterans’ club.

The meeting drew the participation of more than 300 war veterans, young volunteers and defence workers, and the Vietnamese community in Berlin/Brandenburg and its surrounding areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador Do Hoa Binh said that this was a significant activity to promote patriotism and solidarity among the Vietnamese in Germany.

On this occasion, a programme to support soldiers who defend the Truong Sa archipelago was launched, raising 4,000 EUR.

A similar meeting was also held by the war veterans association in the German city of Leipzig.

The Vietnamese Embassy and the Defence Attache Office in New Delhi, India, also marked the army day at a ceremony on Dec. 21 that drew the participation of India’s high-ranking military officers, diplomats and scholars, ASEAN countries, Cuba , Russia , Kazakhstan and Ukraine./.
