The latest celebration was held by the Vietnamese Embassy in the United States on December 17.
Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh reminded that Vietnam’s militaryaffiliation with the US already began in 1945 when the VPA had Americanpartners from the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor of thetoday CIA.
Vietnam and the US are intensifyingcooperation in disaster relief aid, education and training, solvingpost-war consequences, and maintaining strategic dialogues andcollaboration at regional forums.
The two countries are also making preparations to mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2015.
Vinh affirmed that he will work to promote the relationship betweenthe two countries in line with the comprehensive partnership launched inJuly, 2013 for the benefits of each country as well as peace, security,prosperity in the region and the world at large.
David Sheer, the Assistant Secretary of Defence for Asian and PacificSecurity Affairs, reiterated the US’s commitment to working closely withVietnam in addressing war consequences, including the search for USservicemen missing in action, bomb and mine clearance, and the treatmentof Agent Orange pollution.
At a function held inMoscow the same day, Vietnam’s ambassador to Russia Nguyen Thanh Sonthanked the precious assistance from the Soviet Union’s people, militaryexperts and troops.
Vietnam wants to continueexpanding military cooperation and working with the internationalcommunity to protect peace, independence and security in the world.
