A special art programme took place in Ho Chi Minh City on August 16 to honour people and soldiers protecting the nation’s beloved sea and islands.

The programme, themed “Towards national sea and islands”, featured a range of art performances by artists who used to visit Truong Sa island district in the central province of Khanh Hoa .

It also offered a chance for people living in the city to discover more about the lives of soldiers based in the Truong Sa archipelago to protect the country’s sea and island sovereignty.

During the event, almost 25 billion VND was raised by both domestic and foreign sponsors. The money will be spent on buying rescue motorboats and water filters as well as building tanks containing fresh water for islands and platforms.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City also marked the occasion by launching a widespread campaign to raise funds for Truong Sa.-VNA
