HCM City (VNA) – An annual art performance by the Vietnam Farmers’ Union (VFU) Ho Chi Minh City raised more than 10.4 billion VND (457,746 USD) on January 11 in a bid to assist needy members of the organisation in the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet).

Chairwoman Nguyen Thanh Xuan said the fund will benefit 3,000 poor and near-poor households in the city by offering them 100 production tools, 2,050 Tet gifts, 820 scholarships, 100 saving accounts, five charity houses, and 20 social welfare packages for children orphaned by COVID-19.

Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, lauded the businesses, philanthropists, and sponsors of the programme for their donations.

First held in 2008, the programme has mobilised social resources to help needy farmers have a warm Tet to enjoy and assisted the union in building many practical support programmes.

In 2021, the municipal union used more than 9 billion VND raised from the programmes and other donations to aid 2,361 members who were infected with COVID-19./.
