An ASEAN coordination centre for suppression and prevention drug trafficking has been opened on the occasion of a meeting between the region' senior officers and three dialogue partners on drug matters in Bangkok.
The centre, called ASEAN Narcotics Cooperation Centre (ASEAN-NARCO), was established in Bangkok to improve the cooperation among ASEAN countries and their partners including China, Japan and the Republic of Korea in efforts to eliminate drug abuse and to finish the drug free target among the ASEAN community, which be formed in 2015.
Justice Minister Paiboon Khumchaya who chaired the meeting said the ASEAN-NARCO would help faster exchange of information among ASEAN members countries where were required to coordinate in controlling and preventing drug trafficking.
ASEAN countries have already been working closely in several frameworks, The centre is another channel to facilitate existing cooperation platform to suppress drug threats through the joint collaboration, according to the NNT bulletin.-VNA
