The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA) kicked off an executive training programme for selected disaster managerment officers from ASEAN countries on January 17.

Under the AHA Centre Executive (ACE) programme, the officers will be involved in a six-month training course that covers a wide range of modules, including emergency management, operating an incident command system and emergency communications.

Addressing the opening ceremony, ASEAN Deputy Secretary General in charge of community and corporate affairs PhD AKP Mochtan, said the programme aims to help disaster management leaders have a great set of skills to tackle future challenges.

He added the disaster monitoring systems and hardware developed by AHA would help achieve the ACE programme goals.

The programme will be held in Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and some other ASEAN countries under the scheme of the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and support from other ASEAN dialogue partners, such as New Zealand, the US and UN agencies.-VNA
