Prague (VNA) – A networking programme aiming to connect Czech enterprises to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) took place in Prague in the evening of November 15.

Co-organised by the ASEAN Committee in Prague and the embassies of Vietnam and Thailand in the Czech Republic, the event gathered representatives from 30 leading companies in the country.

Speaking at the event, both Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa and President of the CZECH TOP 100 Association Jan Struž emphasised the importance of multifaceted relations and economic cooperation between the Czech Republic and ASEAN.

They voiced their hope that trade and investment ties would grow in conformity with expectations of both sides.

Bilateral trade between ASEAN and the Czech Republic now stands at 5 billion USD, failing to match their potentials.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)’s correspondent, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Ho Minh Tuan said Vietnam acts as a bridge between the Czech Republic and ASEAN, while the Czech Republic is considered as a gateway for Vietnam to enter Central and East Europe.

The Czech Republic regards Vietnam as one of 12 prioritised areas for economic cooperation, with Vietnam ranking third among the Czech Republic’s biggest trade partners in ASEAN, behind Thailand and Indonesia.
