ASEAN chief applauds VN’s hosting efforts

ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan told the Vietnam News Agencyreporter on July 23 that Vietnam, as the ASEAN Chair, should be veryproud of being a good host with its enthusiastic and considerateorganising board and friendly and hospitable capital, where the meetingstook place.

Talking about Vietnam participation inASEAN and its role in connecting the bloc with its partners, the ASEANchief acknowledged Vietnam’s positive contribution to ASEAN duringits 15 years of membership.

The country is gettingmore involved in ASEAN cooperation by contributing more initiatives tothe bloc’s activities and cooperation programmes, helping maintain apeaceful and stable environment in the region as well as increasingASEAN’s position in the world, he remarked.

Vietnam is doing well as the ASEAN chair in 2010, an important year in the development of the bloc, he added.

Regardingthe significance and results of the AMM 43, ASEAN Secretary Generalsaid that the meeting was to discuss important plans, including how toboost cooperation with ASEAN’s partners to support its goal of buildingan ASEAN community, coping with global challenges and maintaining itsleadership.

Ministers reached consensus on many importantissues, he said, adding that the meetings between ASEAN and 10 partnersbrought in benefits for both sides.

The partners affirmedtheir continued support for ASEAN’s central role in the region and shareASEAN’s vision on the future regional structure.

The 17th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF 17) successfully ended with orientations for the future, he affirmed.

Regional countries agreed on their common goal and desire of peace,stability, cooperation and development and pledged cooperation for thesetargets, he said./.

Vietnam, Laos sign cooperation agreement to enhance financial management capacity for 2026–2030

The agreement was one of four cooperation documents exchanged during the Lao PM’s ongoing official visit to Vietnam, reflecting the determination of the two Parties, States, as well as ministries, and sectors of the two countries to further consolidate, strengthen and deepen the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos.

Vietnam, Thailand further bolster 50-year ties

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on August 6, 1976, Vietnam-Thailand ties have expanded steadily in both breadth and depth. The two countries enjoy strong political trust and close relations between their leaders and people. This has provided a solid foundation for deeper cooperation across all channels, including state, government, parliamentary, business, local-level and people-to-people exchanges.
